The Summer Adventure of 2016
So after my wild road trip with my family, I got home and flew out the next day to see my other family. I think this is one of the top most memorable trips I've taken so far, but who knows how many more I'll have so it's hard to say what's my favorite and what's not anymore. Memories are precious and it's honestly what gets me through my hard times. So, to start it off we got an airbnb for the first two nights in Vegas. EDC was on Friday, Saturday and Sunday but we wanted to make the budget work so airbnb near the strip and just splitting the uber got us by. I'm so proud of myself for the airbnb I booked though, it was absolutely gorgeous and it was like living a dream.
We came about two days early arriving on Wednesday night, so more like a day and a half. The morning of Thursday, our airbnb condo had a kitchen space and to save ourselves some money from spending it all on eating just In N' Out for a whole week and a half we decided to buy groceries and make ourselves breakfast. After that we headed out for the Buygore and Friends pool party at the Foxtail Pool Lounge. Being underaged was rough (and trust me booking hotels and places too) and not being able to go to most of the EDC Week shows was extremely sad but I found us two that we could do on Thursday that were 18+ and we had a blast for that.
We met up with our other halves at Buygore and Friends, who are insane for driving from Jacksonville, FL all the way out to Las Vegas. They're great and I love them. I should also mention I was dumb and forgot to get my swimsuit out of the dryer before flying out to Vegas so I bought a random pair at Walmart since you can't go to a pool party without your gear.
After the show we split up from our halves and went and explored the Las Vegas strip and explored around for a bit. We had a few hours to kill and we were going to pick up our shuttle passes but the wait time was actually like a few hours so we decided to come back for it later... We had another show that night to see Alison Wonderland, Mija, Vincent, Valentino Khan and Stooki Sound at the Chelsea at the Cosmopolitan with the other halves that night. Excuse the squinting faces because the use of flash in a pitch black room isn't really that flattering. After that show I thought we were going to come back and sleep and relax for the next morning... but nah. I wound up on the road with Matthew to go help my friend Tony get his car towed to LV since it broke down in the middle of nowhere at 5AM and wound up not getting back until like 8AM. It was a wild and crazy start, but that's the best kind.
Day 1 - Friday
We moved from the airbnb into our hotel we split with my long-time friend from Kansas I was finally meeting for the first time, Jesse and his group at the Excalibur. Our shuttle was over at Las Vegas Village across the street so it wasn't as bad. The magic of the hype for this was insane, from just lining up for the show to the very moment you enter to leaving the speedway. Entering the speedway you get a sign that says "Welcome Home" and just fuck man. You're at a giant party with thousands of other people who love the music and being there just as much as you do. Everyone belongs there. A lot of day 1 for us just consisted of taking in the moment. We kicked off our night with Adventure Club standing front and center against the rails though so I have to say it was a great starting out for us. My favorite moment for this though was when I took Mingi to see Dada Life at Kinetic Field though. We had lost Daniel by that point, it was bound to happen to lose one of us. It was Mingi's first time really getting around Dada Life and the amount of bananas confused the fuck out of him, it was glorious. I had also traded kandi with one guy and got one with bananas on it. My favorite one still. As well as Kaskade's Redux sunrise set, it was insane.
Day 2 - Saturday
Day 2 was my day to get lost, actually got a picture with our whole group! I loved day 2, got to see all my favorite artists and we spent 3 sets up at the front of Kinetic Field back to back. Thank god for the hydropaks we bought and carried for the whole time. THANK YOU INSOMNIAC FOR FREE WATER STATIONS EVERYWHERE. Ok now that I have that out, I lost Daniel and Mingi after we got separated between Oliver Heldens and The Chainsmokers. After that was Above and Beyond though so I refused to miss that.... you snooze you lose? Around Armin Van Buuren's set however my twin Tang John came and found me jamming out by myself. I eventually found Jesse on my way to the shuttles to go back to the hotel after Dash Berlin's sunrise set.
Day 3 - Sunday
Here we are at the end of the 3 day madness and magic. I think this was the most emotional day for me, we had such a great time and there were so many great artists I couldn't help but feel so many things. I hung out more with Jesse and the crew today because of Dreamstate going on over at Circuit Grounds. I did run into my friend Calvin though who is in Louisville for school but originally from California which was insane because I didn't think it'd happen with so many people that was there. My two favorite memorable sets from this night were definitely Giraffage and Gareth Emery. There were so many artists at EDC that I wanted to go see but I had to make heartbreaking choices for everything. The amount of memories and short brief moments I connected with my friends at the time are insane. Leaving was heartbreaking too, to know that the magic has to end. We got back to the hotel around 8AM and slept for a bit. Well I did at least, slept for 2 hours before ubering over to the airport at 10AM to pick up our rental car and start driving over to California. Onto the last piece of this wild trip.
